Washington, D.C. also known as the District of Columbia (by nobody), the capital of the United States of America (it’s actually quite a long name if you put it all together: Washington, District of Columbia, United States of America Inc).
But the city is more than just politics and a grid of roads named using only single letters, numbers, and cardinal directions. It is also a city of monuments, a city of memorials, a city of museums, and most of all it is a city of phallic imagery and of giant statues of dead guys.
It is a truly magical place that pretends to be steeped in history so that Americans will want to vacation there.
The following photos come from the National Mall and surrounding areas. And for those of you with an eye for foliage (or who actually read captions), yes, the photos come from two different tours of the city (one in the spring, and on the fall).
