I’ve done a number of podcasts now and this one was definitely the one I enjoyed recording most. Eoin, part of the team behind the app Hiiker (and the Hiiker Podcast), was a pleasure to talk to. Despite this being the first time we spoke at length, it felt like we had known each other for years.
In addition to discussing my upcoming (now past) bikepacking trip of the Arizona Trail, we revisit what got me into backpacking, my first hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, what makes a “thru-hike”, my limbo prowess, my toenails, and pretty much everything that’s happened in my life to lead me up to today. It’s also the first podcast where I’ve openly discussed my off-trail name.
Tyler Fox, otherwise known on-trail as Mac, is constantly on some sort of adventure. If it’s not on the PCT or the CDT, he’s bikepacking the AZT or hiking in Tasmania. He’s always got something cool on the go. I guess you have to live that life if you have a successful adventure travel blog! Eoin catches up with Tyler while he is planning his Thru-bike of the AZT.
–The Hiiker Podcast
You can stream the entire episode below, or employ the podcasting app/streaming service of choice. As usual, podcasts are scary because (despite still not recognizing my own voice) I sometimes have to discuss things or facts that I may or may not be 100% sure of (e.g. lengths of trails, elevations of peaks, etc.) That said, I think I did a fairly accurate job of recounting and describing everything we discuss.
If I did in fact make any glaring factual errors, feel free to let me know in the comments.
If you’re interested in checking out the Hiiker App for an upcoming adventure, you can find it for both iOS and Android (there are free and paid versions available).
