The Night Before the Morning of (the PCT)
It’s just past midnight, and I have just finished what I deem an acceptable amount of planning and preparation for the start of my 2,600-mile adventure.
I ended up throwing a lot more into my pack than I initially planned, and I have no idea what tomorrow has in store, but following my 1.5-hour drive to Campo in the morning, I will quickly discover what I did right and what I should have done differently.
Final Notes
A few things have changed since a week ago, and I am sure they will continue changing, but here is where things stand as of now:
- I will not be bringing an ice axe, crampons, or microspikes.
- I have decided to bring trekking polesalong after all (mostly for bear defense)
- My backpack does, in fact, fit all of my gear (good news there)
- I am certain that I have forgotten something that I have yet to think of.
Now it’s time to get what will surely be an inadequate night’s sleep to prepare myself for the adventure (but what would an adventure be without insufficient sleep?).
I love this: (but, what would an adventure be without insufficient sleep?)!
Sleep deprivation makes everything better (especially sleeping).
poles, good choice
Hike, Hike, Hike!!!! Hope all goes well on the journey!
Good luck on your wonderful adventure… I am a business friend of your dads and am fascinated by your guts and intrigue… happy hiking

Pretty excited to see how this turns out. Did you bring a solar charger, or are you going sans tech?
Solar charger has been employed, have my SteriPEN, phone, and speaker to keep charged out there.
