Ever wonder what type of people hike the Pacific Crest Trail? (Spoiler alert: white people)

We can always draw conclusions based on PCT thru-hiker surveys or arbitrary blog posts, but this requires the use of one’s imagination (an imagination which has likely grown weak and useless in the absence of a large purple dinosaur’s weekly inspiration).

The solution to said problem: photographs.

During my time bumming around the Sierra the past few months, I managed to steal the souls of numerous thru-hikers with my futuristic photo-making machine. The resulting images provide a small glimpse into the PCT Class of 2014.

  1. New Zealand’s Te Araroa (the long pathway in Maori) trail that runs the length of the country seems be overwhelmingly hiked by foreigners. I section hiked a portion recently and only met Americans, Czechs and a Swede. No other Kiwis.

    1. Planning on hiking that trail as part of my year in NZ – might be nice to meet some fellow strangers to the land after what I expect will be a long time with the Kiwis.

    1. I’m currently in the process of conducting my PCT Class of 2015 survey. We’ll have to see how the demographic portion plays out.
