Photo Gallery: Faces Of The Pacific Crest Trail

Ever wonder what type of people hike the Pacific Crest Trail? (Spoiler alert: white people)

We can always draw conclusions based on PCT thru-hiker surveys or arbitrary blog posts, but this requires the use of one’s imagination (an imagination which has likely grown weak and useless in the absence of a large purple dinosaur’s weekly inspiration).

The solution to said problem: photographs.

During my time bumming around the Sierra the past few months I managed to steal the souls of numerous thru-hikers with my futuristic photo making machine. The resulting images provide a small glimpse into the PCT Class of 2014:

  1. New Zealand’s Te Araroa (the long pathway in Maori) trail that runs the length of the country seems be overwhelmingly hiked by foreigners. I section hiked a portion recently and only met Americans, Czechs and a Swede. No other Kiwis.

    1. Planning on hiking that trail as part of my year in NZ – might be nice to meet some fellow strangers to the land after what I expect will be a long time with the Kiwis.

    1. I’m currently in the process of conducting my PCT Class of 2015 survey. We’ll have to see how the demographic portion plays out.
