The Good

The Range

The range on the Bulldog’s dual battery system is nothing short of incredible. This thing is built for serious mileage with up to 130 mi / 210 km of range on a single charge. I rode it for a week without needing to plug it in once. My daily routine included a 4-mile commute —three times a day, when you count going home for lunch—and I still had juice left over for running with the dogs in the evenings. That usually added another few miles per day. The test came riding it up Tioga Pass—the eastern entrance to Yosemite. It’s about 8 mi / 13 km each way with a solid 2,500 ft / 760 m of elevation gain, and the Bulldog tackled it without issue. The bike held its own even with a loaded pack on my back and severe wind. The motor didn’t struggle, and I never felt like I was pushing the bike beyond its capabilities.

The Performance

The PUCKIPUPPY Bulldog e-bike is a powerful and robust bike designed to handle challenging terrains and steep inclines easily. Its robust 1350W peak hub motor delivers exceptional torque and power, making it ideal for off-road adventures and demanding conditions. You can reach speeds of up to 20 mph / 32 km/h using the throttle alone or up to 28 mph / 45 km/h with pedal assist. I was never disappointed with its performance, although I did find myself wanting it to get it going faster (but e-bikes aren’t allowed to go over 28 mph / 45 km/h on level ground – at least according to California state law).

The Construction

The PUCKIPUPPY Bulldog e-bike has an aluminum alloy frame. Its build is designed for a comfortable ride on rough terrain, and its frame and forgiving tires give it its payload capacity of up to 400 lb / 181 kg. This substantial weight limit opens up many possibilities, allowing you to comfortably carry significant cargo, groceries, gear for outdoor adventures (or even another passenger if you’re creative), making the Bulldog a versatile and practical transportation solution. The strength-to-weight ratio of the aluminum alloy frame is a key factor in the Bulldog’s overall performance and utility.

The Okay

The Suspension

The full suspension system is solid and adds noticeable comfort to the ride, especially on uneven terrain and gravel roads. It soaks up the bumps and small obstacles better than a hardtail or a rigid frame would, making it feel stable and confident when riding off pavement. That said, the travel is limited if you’re coming from a traditional mountain biking background or looking to take it on more aggressive trails. While it’s not a downhill rig—and doesn’t claim to be—it’s worth noting that the suspension is tuned more for urban, mixed-surface, and light trail riding than for bombing steep singletrack. Still, for what it’s designed to do, the suspension hits a nice balance between performance and comfort.

The Warranty

The PUCKIPUPPY (which I’m still confused about whether and/or why I am supposed to write it in caps) warranty covers “components/structure” for three years, “electrical components” for two years, and “other essentials” for one year. Sounds okay, I suppose. That said, it says that “excessive use” will void the warranty. What defines excessive use I guess is up to the company. Seems like a way for the company to potentially have an invitation to say no to anyone with an issue they don’t want to address. I haven’t had any experience with the warranty process yet, but if I end up needing to make a claim, I’ll update this post.

The Bad

The Weight

At 95 lb / 43 kg, the Bulldog is no featherweight. While that heft adds to its stability and battery capacity, lifting or transporting the bike becomes challenging. Throwing it over a tailgate and into the bed of a truck took some serious effort—and more than a little awkward maneuvering. If you plan to haul it frequently, investing in a solid hitch-mounted bike rack is probably the way to go. Lifting it onto a roof rack or into a high-clearance vehicle isn’t something most folks will want to do regularly (or ever). Once it’s on the ground and rolling, the weight becomes much less noticeable thanks to the powerful motor and low center of gravity.

Wrap Up

Off-road adventurers and long-distance explorers will find the PUCKIPUPPY Bulldog a formidable electric bike, boasting a potent combination of power, impressive range, and robust build quality.

While its weight and price point are worth noting, the overall performance and features strongly appeal to riders prioritizing a dependable and highly capable electric companion.
