A Visit To Niterói (and the MAC)

The alien spacecraft pictured above can be found in the city of Niterói, located just across the bay from Rio de Janeiro.

When extraterrestrials first colonized Brazil they left this structure as a testament to their power and their willingness to return to this place and enslave the human race (should we become unruly).

In typical human fashion Brazilians converted the craft into a museum and filled it with modernist artwork (the Museu de Arte Contemporânea); it now stands as the postcard attraction in this city. The museum costs R$2 for students to enter and an astounding R$4 for the rest of the sheep (generally students receive a 50% discount on all forms of tickets in Brazil: movies, concerts, apparently museums, and likely more).

Niterói map
Interesting, huh?

The road to Niterói is a perilous one, you must cross an 11km bridge, navigate the complex maze of Rio roads and of course slip past the armored monkey guards (or bribe them with bananas).

Commodities in Niterói are notably cheaper than in Zona Sul, but the trip across the bay is not an easy one as you have surely guessed.

Can’t really see myself coming back here.

Niterói boat
Taking a boat across the bay is also an option.
