Several eels, caught during a fishing trip to Fire Island, are inside a white container with some debris and seaweed. The long, dark eels contrast sharply against the light background of the container.

Fishing For Eeel On Fire Island

When living on an island your resources are limited: fresh water, toilet paper, friends, and of course food.

Luckily, for the people of Fire Island there appears to be a thriving eel and crab population in the Great South Bay, making for easy prey and interesting snacks.

Oddly enough you will find no street vendors selling these local delicacies to the transient weekend population (you will find only a racketeering group of prepubescent local children selling “shells” for the purpose of laundering drug money), but if you are lucky you may happen upon an old man down at the dock, drunk on wine at eleven in the morning, eager to share his catch with you.
